ClassCover Update for Relief Ruler Schools
Learn about what you can get access to on ClassCover, the Relief Ruler favourites we are bringing across, and get an update on pricing.
In June 2022, Relief Ruler was acquired by ClassCover. Since the announcement of the acquisition, ClassCover has been busy in the background gathering feedback from Relief Ruler schools on how we can improve on the ‘must have’ features that will be brought across to ClassCover. This has included video interviews with schools and analysing responses to surveys.
We have learned and obtained fantastic insights as a result and we want to say a heartfelt thank you to schools that have given up their time to assist us in building out a new and improved ClassCover to meet the needs of our Relief Ruler schools and beyond.
During this research phase, points were raised around pricing which we now realise needs further clarification.
Take a look through the update on pricing below. We’ve also outlined what you can do on ClassCover now and what is coming up in future releases.
Legacy Pricing Plan for Relief Ruler Schools
There are no additional fees for joining ClassCover for Relief Ruler schools.
All existing Relief Ruler customers will have access to the ClassCover platform under a special Legacy Pricing Plan. Your annual fee remains the same as it is on Relief Ruler, unless you decide to cancel at any point and want to return.
Those continuing a subscription will be upgraded to the new and improved ClassCover platform, which will offer features equal to Relief Ruler by June 2023 and much more.
The Legacy Pricing Plan is available to Relief Ruler schools that renew their subscription for 2023. If your school decides to reconsider subscribing at a later date, the Legacy Pricing Plan is not applicable. All new and reactivated subscriptions will be invoiced at the regular ClassCover rate which is found here.

Coming soon to ClassCover 👀
‘Must have’ Relief Ruler features that will be integrated into the new and improved ClassCover
Automatic Bookings (Smart Groups)
We are bringing Automatic Bookings over to ClassCover with improvements and added functionality. With new preferred, backup and emergency lists, we’re calling this feature Smart Groups. Using this feature, you will be able to:
- Add multiple teachers to your Smart Group’s preferred or backup list in one click.
- Move multiple teachers across from each Smart Group’s preferred and backup lists.
- Create, assign and edit Smart Groups all in one simple step.
- Place a booking immediately from your Smart Group list screen or through the usual booking flow.
- Your emergency list will be alerted to the booking if the preferred and backup list fails
- Emergency list options are anyone who is available on your list OR teachers that match the booking criteria and are available (eg: subject, year level)
TRT in-app booking, cancellation, opt-outs, and automatic job reposting
Currently, there is no feature on ClassCover where TRTs can cancel in-app. All TRTs must phone the school to cancel a booking. ClassCover is planning on bringing this feature across but with extra care and big improvements.
- Schools will be able to opt out of in-app cancellations by TRTs. If you have this switched off, the TRT must phone the school. You will be required to enter an emergency contact number.
- For schools with this function switched on, you will have the option to automatically repost the booking to your preferred, backup and emergency list using a smart algorithm on who gets the alert first. (eg: a TRT who accepted the job on the first send but missed out will be served the booking first)
- The TRT must include a mandatory reason for cancellation
Reopen unfilled or partially filled bookings
From your calendar or request history feed, you will be able to reopen a job that has timed out with no response. You will be able to extend the booking to more teachers using your pre-set or emergency list. This will also give you an accurate downloadable report on unfilled rates.
Coordinator role functionality
For TRT schemes, Coordinators on ClassCover will see more features and a seamless booking flow to manage several schools and TRTs in each schools account. More information on this coming soon…
When will these features be available on ClassCover?
ClassCover is actively working on these features now, and releasing them in priority order. These features, along with a new easier to use platform interface will be available by June 2023.
By this date, Relief Ruler will cease to operate. All Relief Ruler schools that wish to continue their subscription will be required to transition over to ClassCover.
Should I transition to ClassCover now?
If your school predominantly uses Ad Hoc and Direct bookings, you can move across now as ClassCover offers the same booking types with the added functionality of priority order for Ad Hoc and the ability to see rich info on each teacher you are booking.
If you use Automatic bookings, you may want to wait until Smart Groups is live on the platform. Signing up to ClassCover early though can’t hurt if you want to poke around. Your access to Relief Ruler will remain the same.
You will be offered training once you sign up via our weekly training webinars and an infopack with a customisable letter that you can send out to your TRTs.
Did you know that 65% of of Relief Ruler TRTs are already on ClassCover?

Will changing platforms create extra work from my school?
When you sign up to ClassCover, your teachers come with you. 65% of TRTs on Relief Ruler already have a ClassCover account set up so it’s likely that many of your TRTs are ready to go. TRTs who get migrated across and don’t yet have a profile can still be booked via SMS bookings to ensure no disruptions.
Once Smart Groups is live, we will have the option for your school to migrate your school set up so you don’t have to start from scratch (unless you want to).
By this time we will also have the ability to migrate already booked days over to your ClassCover calendar.
