Find and Book More Teachers: A Term 3 Guide for Schools

New features and proven strategies to help schools keep casual relief teachers engaged and attract new ones using ClassCover.

Happy term 3! As we enter the second half of the school year, things are well and truly starting to heat up. If one of your goals this term is to stabilise your supply of casual relief teachers, read on to see our hacks to engage the teachers on your list and find new ones in your area.

Check the health of your list

One of the most important steps your school can take to start the new term on the right foot is to ensure the health of your list. This is displayed as a percentage and takes into account the number of active vs inactive teachers you have on your list.

A teacher is marked as inactive when they haven’t logged into ClassCover for three months or more. As a rule of thumb, you should aim for a health score of 70% or higher. Head to your ‘My Teachers’ page to view your health checker.

Use your Health Checker to keep track of your Teacher List

Is your health score below 70%? Read on to learn how to find and add more teachers to your list.

🚀 Just launched: You can now ‘nudge’ inactive teachers on your list to prompt them to take action on their account, including their updating their availability or turning off bookings if they are no longer available.  Learn more

Reach out to your list

One of the best ways to ensure your school is prepared for any staff shortages in the term ahead is to proactively reach out to your list to see if they are available to teach. If that sounds as much fun as trying to wrangle a classroom full of year 7’s right after lunch, we’ve got good news for you. Our Broadcast Message feature means you can email all—or some—of your list in one go. It’s as simple as this:

You’ve got 280 characters to play with plus a link, so a good place to start is reminding the teachers on your list to update their availability. Here are some pre-written message templates for you to send in seconds.

🥴 Are you missing a teacher from your list? We have recently given teachers the ability to turn off bookings if they are on contract or otherwise unavailable. This will hide any teacher who has turned off bookings from your list.

Check for pending requests – Teachers who have requested to join your school

Did you know that teachers can now request to join your school’s list? Whether this new feature slipped your attention or if you and your team have forgotten to check your pending invites in the craziness of the school year, now is the perfect time to take a minute to check for any pending teacher requests.

Resend pending invites – Teachers you have invited to join your school

Just as things get crazy for schools during the term, teachers too can overlook things when they are busy at work. If you aren’t confident you will be able to fill upcoming vacancies with the number of teachers you have on your list, revisit the pending invites you have sent to teachers to join your school’s list.

View your school’s pending invites here.

From here, you can now send a reminder to any teachers you choose to prompt them to join your list. We introduced this feature in light of the ongoing teacher shortage to give schools more ways to connect with and engage teachers. From the pending invites list, you will see the option to ‘resend invite’ to all of the teachers listed as pending. Remember, you can only resend an invite to each teacher a total of 3 times, and only after waiting 7 days from each resend.

Post a job

If you have a job vacancy that you want to get in front of a bigger audience than the educators on your list, take a look at ClassCover Jobs. We launched this platform to streamline the process of advertising jobs for schools. Rather than using a general jobs board that caters to all industries, ClassCover Jobs enables you to post a job ad easily from your existing ClassCover account. Once live, your ad will be visible to educators looking for work in your area.

Looking to fill a full-time, part-time, or contract role? You can use the application process to either collect teacher CVs or direct applicants to your own website to apply.

Looking to boost the size of your teacher list? Using ClassCover Jobs, post a callout for casual relief teachers to apply to join your school’s list.
