SMS and push notifications on ClassCover | The full guide

Are you having issues receiving ClassCover notifications on your phone? Missing booking notifications is frustrating but can be fixed easily by contacting support or by using our troubleshoot guide below. With a little digging, you can get your booking notifications sorted in no time.

  1. Make sure it is set up properly in the first place.

Check out our how to guide on setting up push notifications on your device after installing here.

2. Logout of the app, uninstall the app and then reinstall it

This should be the first thing you try. The first step of logging out of the app first is crucial in resetting your app settings.

If you’ve already uninstalled the app without logging out then you will need to reinstall the app, log back in, log out then uninstall.

Reinstall again and choose push notifications if you want to be alerted via push. If you wish to have the app and only have SMS notifications, then after completing the above steps and reinstalling, simply choose not to turn on push notifications.

3. Make sure that you only have ClassCover installed on ONE device

It’s important that you do not install the ClassCover app onto multiple devices. This includes iPads / tablets and other phones. If you have ClassCover installed on other devices, you will have problems with booking notifications as the notification will be lost between the devices.

4. Contact the support team to get a fix and a test notification

Our customer support team are always ready to help, so if you are missing out on notifications, please get in touch so they can investigate and fix the issue for you.

They can turn off push notifications for you, so you only receive SMS. They can also fix and test push notifications if these are your preference. Find out how to get in touch with support here

5. Make sure your banners are on persistent (iOS)

It is important to make sure that your push notification settings for ClassCover are on ‘persistent banner’. If you don’t have this setting chosen, then you may miss the notification as it will flash and disappear before you may get a chance to see it.

6. Make sure you don’t have a low battery (Android)

Check your battery usage settings as this may block the PN if you have an Android phone. Make sure your phone is charged in the morning, ready to accept jobs.

7. Do you have an Oppo or Huawei phone and having troubles with Push Notifications?

These devices had an update that did mess with Push Notification settings. Please check out our article on how to fix these issues for these devices here.

Now for the big question – Push notification or SMS? Which is better?

There’s a lot of misinformation that gets passed around regarding which is faster out of SMS and push notifications and the argument is age-old.

The truth is, they both get delivered at the same time in most cases. The only times there would be a time difference in delivery would be in the below cases;

  • Delay with push notifications: This will happen if you have no or low internet data coverage on Wifi or 4G / 3G.
  • Delay with SMS: This will happen if you have no or low network coverage in your area.

If your area or home has bad internet or 4G / 3G data blind spots, then choosing SMS will work for you better. Same goes if you live in an area with low network coverage – choose push instead.

If you live in an area with none of these issues, then it comes down to personal preference of how you prefer to accept your jobs. With SMS it will be responding with a letter and two numbers. With push notifications it will be opening the app and accepting or declining with the addition of viewing your booking request history and seeing more details in your calendar in the app.

Push notification enhancements coming soon

We are also working on improvements and enhancements to our push notifications which includes the ability to switch push on and off in the app, the ability to choose your own alert sound and other general improvements to accepting jobs through push.
