Why Education Employers Choose ClassCover Jobs Over General Job Boards

Why Education Employers Choose ClassCover Jobs Over General Job Boards

Generalist job boards and ClassCover Jobs differ in who sees the job ads and how you pay for it. ClassCover Jobs advertises into an audience that is on the platform for education roles, publishes flat rates, and is included free for schools already using ClassCover for relief bookings. SEEK and Indeed reach far larger general audiences and price dynamically, per ad tier or per click and application. For education-specific roles the niche audience usually does more work per dollar. For non-teaching roles, a generalist board is the better tool.

Relevance is the constraint

Australian schools are hiring from a large qualified population. In 2024 there were 567,103 registered teachers, and 16% were employed on a casual basis (AITSL, June 2026). Finding people is rarely the constraint. Getting the right ones to see and act on a specific vacancy is.

Generalist boards optimise for reach across every industry. That is genuinely valuable, and it is why they dominate. It also means a Year 4 teaching vacancy competes for attention against warehouse, hospitality and administration roles in the same feed, and that the majority of the audience seeing your ad has no path into the job.

Candidates spend roughly 80% of their time on the search results page, deciding from the title, location, salary and a short summary whether to click at all (SEEK Employer). On a general board your ad has to win that decision against everything. On an education platform it competes against other education roles, which is a smaller and more relevant contest.

Costs compared

The three platforms do not price the same way, so a like-for-like number is not available. What follows is what each publishes.

ClassCover Jobs. Included free for schools subscribed to ClassCover for relief bookings. For Jobs Only accounts, which are schools and education businesses not using ClassCover bookings, the published rates as at April 2026 are:

Plan Cost Included
Single Post $50 per job post Pay as you go
Annual Starter $80/month ($960/yr) 4 ad credits per month, extras $50 each
Annual Premium $200/month ($2,400/yr) Unlimited job posts

Boosting a post costs $20. It pins the post to the top of search results for 30 days, sends a dedicated email to relevant local candidates, and applies a Promoted label. Schools can also trial ClassCover Bookings free for 30 days, which includes unlimited Jobs posting.

Indeed. Employers posting directly can post up to three free jobs per calendar month, each live for up to 30 days, and Indeed does not charge a flat rate to post a job. Paid sponsorship is results-based: pay per click on a daily budget, or pay per started application on a monthly budget. The cost is set by Indeed’s recommendation system, which accounts for job competitiveness, location, your hiring timeline and the supply of job seekers (Indeed Australia).

SEEK. Job ads are sold in three tiers. Basic offers “a balance between performance and cost with exposure to relevant candidates”, Advanced offers “enhanced targeting to high fit candidates” for hard-to-fill roles, and Premium is the top tier. A Concierge option has SEEK write and post the ad. Prices are not listed on the product page and are quoted through the employer platform (SEEK Employer).

The practical difference: ClassCover Jobs costs the same whether the role is easy or hard to fill, while results-based and tiered models cost more precisely when hiring is hardest. Whether that favours you depends on how competitive your vacancies are.

Application relevance

The mechanism is straightforward. On an education platform, the people browsing arrived looking for education work, so applications skew toward people who want the job you posted. On a general board, reach is larger and the applicant mix is wider, which produces more applications to read and a higher proportion that are not a fit.

We do not publish measured comparisons of application quality or time-to-hire, so this article does not claim any. What ClassCover Jobs does offer for narrowing the field:

  • Headhunter. Browse up to 50 matched candidates per job and invite them to apply, rather than waiting for applications.
  • Casual callouts. Post a call for casual applications specifically to grow your relief list, which is a job type generalist boards do not model.
  • Applicant management. Shortlist, hire or reject, with CVs, cover letters and attachments in one place, plus a weekly digest of new applicants.
  • External portal linking. Redirect applicants to your own system if you run recruitment there.

Note that only RTA or School Admin users can post jobs and manage listings, so set permissions before a vacancy is urgent.

What ClassCover Jobs does not do

This matters more than any feature list.

It does not verify credentials or clearances. ClassCover Jobs has no compliance or credential verification for standard school users. Teacher registration and Working With Children Check data are surfaced only at enterprise and state department HRIS integration level. Confirming registration with your state authority and clearances with your state screening unit is your responsibility, exactly as it is on SEEK, Indeed or any other board.

It does not match generalist reach. For a role that is not education-specific, a smaller specialist audience is a disadvantage.

Its audience is currently Australian. For international recruitment, generalist boards and specialist international services will reach further.

Where SEEK, Indeed or Jora are the better choice

Use a generalist board when:

  • The role is not education-specific. Finance officers, facilities managers, IT staff, grounds and maintenance, marketing and admissions. The best candidates for these are not browsing education job boards.
  • You need maximum reach on a hard-to-fill or senior role. A principal or head of faculty search benefits from the largest possible audience, and SEEK’s higher tiers exist for exactly this.
  • You want to test the market at no cost. Indeed’s three free posts per calendar month are a reasonable way to gauge interest before committing budget.
  • You are recruiting outside the school workforce entirely, for example career changers with no education background.

Plenty of schools run both. A generalist board for reach, an education platform for relevance, and the same well-written ad on each.

The variable that outweighs the platform

Whichever board you choose, the ad itself does more work than the channel.

Job ads on SEEK that show a visible salary receive on average 36% more applications than ads that do not, ads paying above the market average receive up to 83% more, and 72% of candidates report finding it frustrating when salary is left out (SEEK Employer, research by Nature, September 2025). Close to 70% of that audience reads on a mobile device (SEEK Employer).

FAQs

What is the difference between ClassCover Jobs and SEEK?

Audience and pricing model. ClassCover Jobs advertises to an audience on the platform for education roles and publishes flat rates. SEEK reaches a general audience across every industry and sells ads in three tiers priced on enquiry (SEEK Employer).

How much does it cost to advertise a teaching job?

On ClassCover Jobs it is included free for schools subscribed to ClassCover bookings. Jobs Only accounts pay $50 per single post, $80 a month for four ad credits, or $200 a month for unlimited posts, as at April 2026. Indeed charges no flat rate and bills per click or per started application (Indeed Australia). SEEK prices its tiers on enquiry.

Does ClassCover Jobs check teacher registration or WWCC?

No. ClassCover Jobs has no credential or clearance verification for standard school users. Confirming registration and Working With Children Checks is the school’s responsibility, the same as on any job board.

Is a niche job board better than a general one for schools?

For classroom and support roles it usually reaches a more relevant audience. For non-teaching roles a generalist board reaches a much larger and more appropriate pool.

How many educators does ClassCover reach?

ClassCover reports a network of more than 200,000 educators and professionals across Australia, as at April 2026.

When should a school use SEEK or Indeed instead?

When the role is not education-specific, when you need maximum reach on a hard-to-fill or senior position, or when you are recruiting outside the school workforce. Many schools run both.

Can I use ClassCover Jobs without subscribing to ClassCover?

Yes. Jobs Only accounts are available for schools and education businesses that do not use ClassCover for relief bookings, with the same features and a separate sign-up path.
