Book university students for education support roles

With a growing number of student teachers on ClassCover, we got to thinking… how could we help schools deal with the staff shortage and provide valuable classroom experience for the next generation of educators?

The solution is clear: allow these students to be booked for classroom support roles on ClassCover. So, depending on your state or territory, you can now search for SLSOs, SSOs, LSOs, EAs or TAs and choose from a group of talented education students.

Booking a Student Teacher for Classroom Support Roles

    Here’s how it works:

    • University students in years 1-4 of an education degree now have the option to mark themselves as “available for education support roles” on ClassCover.
    • Once a student marks themselves as available, their profile will become findable in the “Find New” screen.
    • All you need to do is filter role type like “SLSO” or “TA” (depending on what you call it in your state) and add the uni students to your list so you can book them as you would any other educator.
    • Like with all classroom staff, you can check the uni students’ ClassCover profile for important compliance such as WWCC.

Pre-service teachers with interim approval to teach are also labelled in ClassCover and can be booked as regular casual relief teachers.

    Benefits for schools

With the staff shortage still impacting schools around Australia, we’re doing everything we can to help schools engage their existing casual staff and find new ones. As more and more university students studying education join ClassCover and were already opting to work in schools in support roles before we released this feature, schools now have the opportunity to identify and develop relationships with these students before they graduate and build a pipeline of new teachers.

    Benefits for uni students

For uni students, the opportunity to gain classroom experience outside of that required by practical placements is invaluable and can give them a big head start in their teaching careers.
